This May there is a special opportunity for dog lovers and animal advocates to make a real impact. We are offering $30 dog adoptions every Saturday at Petsmart Webster and most Sundays at the Kemah Boardwalk. These events bring many dogs closer to finding their forever homes. But to make these adoption days successful, we need a strong team of volunteers and fosters.
Why $30 Dog Adoptions Matter
Adopting a dog is a big decision, but lowering the adoption fee to $30 makes it easier for more families to say yes. We are grateful for the support of PetSmart Charities to make this option available.
This affordable price helps:
Attract more potential adopters who might hesitate due to cost
Move dogs out of shelters faster, freeing space for others in need
Encourage repeat visits to adoption events, building community support
Many of the dogs available at these events come from our municipal shelter partners. These shelters often face overcrowding, especially during the summer months when puppy and kitten season peaks. Offering $30 adoptions helps reduce shelter populations and gives dogs a better chance at a happy life.
The Critical Role of Volunteers
Our adoption events cannot happen without volunteers. We need people who can:
Help set up and break down event spaces
Greet visitors and answer questions about the dogs
Assist with dog handling and care during the event
Support administrative tasks like paperwork and payment processing
Volunteering is a rewarding way to connect with animals and the community. Even a few hours on a Saturday or Sunday can make a huge difference. If you love dogs and want to help them find homes, consider signing up to volunteer for these events in May.
One Week Fostering Can Change Everything
Fostering a dog for just one week between events is one of the most impactful ways to help. Here’s why:
It provides dogs with a safe, loving environment outside the shelter
It frees up space in shelters for more animals in urgent need
It helps dogs adjust to home life, making them more adoptable
It gives our team time to prepare dogs for upcoming adoption events
We are looking for new and returning fosters who can commit to one week only (pick up at one event and drop off at the next event the following weekend). This short-term commitment fits well with busy schedules but still offers HUGE benefits to the dogs.
How Fostering Supports Shelter Partners
Many dogs at our events come from municipal shelters that struggle during the summer. Puppy and kitten season increases the number of animals needing care, stretching resources thin. By fostering dogs for a week, you help:
Reduce overcrowding in shelters
Improve the health and well-being of dogs before adoption
Create a smoother pipeline for dogs to enter our adoption program
Your foster care helps shelters manage the seasonal surge and saves lives.
