Out-of-State Adoptions with Lifeline of Galveston County
Yes, you can adopt from us even if you don’t live in Texas!
Lifeline of Galveston County regularly adopts dogs and cats to loving homes across the U.S. Our out-of-state adoption program is designed to be safe, transparent, and as stress-free as possible for both pets and adopters. Texas is the highest kill state in the country. Help us change that! Learn more about out of state adoptions impact on animal welfare here!

Pets are currently available for transport to the following states: UT, ID, OR, WA, MT, CO, KS, NE, SD, OH, IN, NY, VT, CT, VA, NC, GA, and surrounding areas based on route availability.
How Our Out-of-State Adoption Process Works
1. Apply to Adopt
Start by completing an adoption application for a pet in our program or complete a matchmaking form if our current dogs don't meet your preferences. Once submitted, our team will review it and reach out with any follow-up questions.
👉 Applying does not guarantee approval, but it helps us determine the best match.
2. Meet Your Match
If approved, a coordinator will contact you to:
-
Confirm fit for your home and lifestyle
-
Set up a video meet and greet
-
Answer questions about the pet’s personality, needs, and medical care
-
Discuss transport timing and logistics
We want adoptions to last!

3. Secure Transport
Once the adoption is finalized, we arrange transport through trusted, USDA-licensed animal transport partners.
Our transports include:
-
Climate-controlled vehicles
-
Professional drivers experienced with animal welfare
-
Regular stops, care checks, and monitoring
-
Clearly communicated pickup locations and times
You’ll receive detailed instructions before travel day so you know exactly what to expect.
4. Pickup Day
Pickup day is exciting and emotional (in the best way).
You’ll meet your new family member at a designated transport stop near you and take them home the same day.
Many adopters stay connected with us long after pickup. We love updates!
