Local Animal Control Agencies

Below is a list of animal control agencies serving different cities in Galveston County & surrounding areas. Please be aware of the following before reaching out:

  • Each agency has its own intake policies, so you’ll need to contact them directly to see if they can assist you. We recommend calling ahead and NOT just showing up.

  • Not all agencies are no-kill. No-kill does not mean they never euthanize. No-kill means at least 90% of the population left their facility alive in the last calendar year.

  • Agencies typically only serve specific cities as they receive tax-payer funding. If you do not live in or find a pet within their jurisdiction, they likely won’t be able to help.

  • Many local agencies do not intake Owner Surrenders, however we recommend reaching out to them for resources. We also have resources here

💡IMPORTANT:  If you find a lost pet, do not leave the location where the pet was found.
Call the animal control agency that serves that city before taking the pet home. This is important for several reasons:

  • Animal control officers need to know the exact location where the pet was found.

  • Some shelters will only accept pets found within their jurisdiction.

  • Others may refuse intake unless you have a driver’s license with their jurisdiction on it.

Taking the pet home first and then reaching out for assistance can lead to a situation where no shelter is able to accept the animal.

To avoid complications, stay at the location and call the appropriate animal control agency for guidance.

Map of Local Shelters

Below is a map of local animal shelters in the area. Please keep in mind:

  • Most shelters that are not animal control agencies are not open-intake.

  • This means they are unable to accept walk-ins or take in pets without prior approval.

🚫 Please do not show up expecting them to take a pet.

Always contact the shelter first to ask about their intake process and availability.
