How Our Adoption Process Works
(Same-Day Adoptions!)
At Lifeline of Galveston County, we make adoptions simple, transparent, and supportive. We know that when you meet the right pet, you don’t want to wait, so we offer same-day adoptions for most pets.
Below is exactly what to expect when adopting from us:
1. Meet the Pet & Chat With Our Team
We’ll introduce ourselves, tell you about the pet’s personality and history, and answer any general questions, especially if you’re a first-time pet owner. We want to make sure you feel fully informed and supported.

2. What’s Included With Your Adoption
Every adoption includes:
-
Spay/neuter (or a scheduled appointment if not yet completed)
-
Microchip
-
Rabies vaccine (usually done at spay/neuter)
-
Core vaccines appropriate for age/species
-
30 days of behavior & training support through Petcademy
-
Starter bag of food
-
A lifetime safety net: Lifeline will always take the pet back, no matter how long it has been
-
2-week money-back guarantee (details below!)

3. Simple Application (Takes Just a Few Minutes)
When you’re ready, you’ll complete a quick online application. Our team will review it right away and get everything set up in our system so you can take your new pet home the same day.

4. Final Steps Before You Go Home
Before leaving, we will:
-
Review your pet’s medical history and any remaining vaccines
-
Go over your adoption packet and answer questions about care, introductions, and next steps
If the pet still needs spay/neuter, we collect a $50 refundable deposit (fully returned once the surgery is completed). This is required by state law.

Our 2-Week Money-Back Guarantee
We want every adoption to be a great fit for you and for the pet.
If at any point during the first 14 days you feel the match isn’t right, you may return the pet for any reason and receive a full refund of the adoption fee. No judgment, no pressure.

This 2-week period serves as your trial time to ensure everyone settles in happily. Our team is always here to support you during that adjustment phase.

Medication or Special Care Pets
If a pet is currently on medical treatment, they may go home as a temporary foster until treatment is finished. After that, we finalize the adoption with you. A refundable deposit may apply.

Our Promise to You
Every adopter should feel informed, supported, and confident. If you ever have questions (before or after adoption) we’re here to help. And no matter how long it’s been, your adopted pet always has a place with us.
