Our community cat program was designed to assist the thousands of cats living as community cats in Galveston County who live outdoors (or semi-outdoor) and are being cared for by neighborhoods, businesses, etc. TNR (trap-neuter-return) is the most effective and humane method known for controlling outdoor cat populations. Without spay/neuter, cats reproduce at crazy levels (1 female cat can have up to 4 litters of kittens per year). This can lead to extreme overpopulation.
In 2023, Lifeline was able to assist 498 cats in Galveston County with TNR services. However, a long commute and the need to use the ferry to get to our usual Spay/Neuter partner clinics make it nearly impossible for Boilvar residents to utilize the free spay/neuter appointments. On April 30th, 2024 thanks to a grant from the Moody Foundation and hired POPS Mobile Vet Clinic to come to Bolivar to offer these services at no cost to Bolivar residents.
