She spent her life helping cats. Now, let’s help hers.

Honor Yvonne Downs’ legacy by opening your home to one of her beloved cats or helping provide the medical care they need.

A lifetime of love for cats

After an impressive career, Yvonne Downs started volunteering at the League City Animal Shelter in 2001. There she met Marie Havican and Monica Millican, and together they started League City Pets Alive in 2008. She remained a board member until the day she passed. She settled into volunteering regularly at the Galveston County Animal Resource Center in Texas City in 2012. There she spent close to 15 years caring for cats and supporting the people who rescued them.

From answering late-night questions about bottle-feeding kittens to meeting rescuers in parking lots with supplies, she showed up whenever she could.

Following her sudden passing, Yvonne leaves behind beloved cats who need that same kindness.

We are grateful to the Galveston County Animal Resource Center for giving her cats an immediate safe place to stay. Lifeline of Galveston County is now working to move as many as possible into foster homes and help with their medical needs.

Open your home. Help a cat.

A quiet place to rest and a caring person can make a meaningful difference for a cat adjusting to life without Yvonne.

We need fosters who can help for one week or several weeks. Several cats are seniors, and some have health issues. Tell us about your availability, household, and the care needs you feel comfortable supporting so we can discuss a possible match.

Lifeline will help coordinate and provide medical care for cats placed through our foster program.

Help provide their medical care

Some of Yvonne’s cats need more than a safe place to stay. Lifeline plans to take in cats with more complex medical needs, including diabetic cats and seniors with health issues.

Your donation will help us provide veterinary evaluations, treatment, medications, and ongoing medical care for the cats we take into our program.

Unable to foster? Helping with medical care is another meaningful way to care for her cats.

Help her kindness live on

Yvonne spent so much of her life showing up for cats. Now, we have the opportunity to show up for hers.

Thank you for fostering, donating, or sharing this page with someone who may be able to help.
